Red Bull Ring

A bit of history

The Red Bull Ring has its roots in the late 1960s, when the original Österreichring was carved into the Styrian mountains near Spielberg. Known for its incredible speed and natural elevation changes, the circuit quickly became a favourite in international motorsport. From 1970 onwards, the Austrian Grand Prix in Formula 1 turned Spielberg into a place of legend.

As safety standards evolved, the original layout was eventually replaced by a newly designed version in the 1990s — modernised, shorter, and better suited to contemporary racing. Under the name A1-Ring, Formula 1 returned from 1997 to 2003.

After another major redevelopment driven by Red Bull, the circuit reopened in 2011 under its current name: Red Bull Ring. The mountains stayed, the racing heritage stayed — but everything around it became faster, safer, and more modern.

Today, the Red Bull Ring combines decades of Grand Prix legacy with cutting-edge motorsport infrastructure.

Red Bull Ring today

Set in the stunning Styrian countryside, the Red Bull Ring is a compact but highly dynamic circuit:

  • Length: 4.318 km

  • Corners: 10 (7 right, 3 left)

  • Elevation change: approx. 65 m per lap

A lap at Spielberg is all about momentum. You launch uphill from the start into a powerful braking zone for Turn 1. A clean exit here rewards you with serious speed all the way to Turn 3. From there, the track drops downhill into a sequence of fast kinks and sweeping corners, finishing with a high-commitment final sector leading back to the straight.

Every element of the layout reflects the surrounding mountains: rising, falling, challenging. That makes consistency key — and when you nail a perfect lap, it feels unforgettable.

With modern paddock buildings, garages, excellent safety features and a professional operations team, Red Bull Ring delivers premium motorsport standards for both race events and track days. The scenery around the track — forest, fields, hills — adds a uniquely dramatic atmosphere.
